I was drawn by an opportunity to rejoin former colleagues into a successful venture, but the real enticement was to get my family together. My brother and his wife and my parents had all relocated there and my wife's family was also from the area.

It was time to come together, but this move was riskier than I realized.

This was an awful time, not only for me, but for most people, because within 3 months, the 2008 financial crisis hit.
